My family and I love this place! The staff are extremely nice and do a great job and the food is GREAT!! Altho I find it a bit silly for them to charge for extra ranch... I really have no complaints tho!! 💕😍
Great place to eat wings and enjoy a beer
Shirley was a great, friendly server. The Nicolas was huge and delicious. The sirloin was tender and excellent. Atmosphere was great. Had a great time.
Newly remodeled and very clean. Staff is nice and helpful. New name now ... Highlander.
If you are looking for great wings we always stop when we are in town.
Simple bar, with good pub food. Chicken Terriaki sandwich very good
Great casual place with really good food. Highly recommend.
They seem to have changed names, but everything was still good.
Always good food and friendly service. Nice covered patio to bring your dogs too!
Had the bacon cheeseburger with fries, and it was great. Don't know if they were busier than expected, but our service was a little subpar. Took a while to get drink orders in, and was only checked on a few times...
I wanted so badly to like this place. But, sadly it missed the mark. The food had little to none flavoring so it tasted like cardboard. My boyfriend ordered a burger and I ordered the Mahi wrap and we both had the same opinion. I get that it was later and the kitchen was closing, but I couldn't believe just how much it seemed they didn't care. The bartenders, on the other hand, were nice...when they would talk to you. At one point our appetizer was sitting behind the bar and we watched it sit there as the bartenders worked around it. They did offer to have it remade, so that was nice. It took a while for my boyfriend to get a refill on his beer and for us to get the check. Overall, maybe a call to John Taffer?
Nice remodel, good food, nice beer selection
Oh my gosh is all I can say!! This place is amazing. Highly recommend. Great food at a great price. Cheap, good beer!! Attentive and Friendly Staff!! Can’t believe that we’ve been living in the area for as long as we have and haven’t been yet!! We will definitely be returning!!
Staff was very friendly, service was great. Didn't wait long for our food, the bacon cheeseburger my hubby got was fresh meat, my daughter's good was good and the salad was good and fresh. I asked for a piece of grilled chicken to feed my toddler and they brought it out already cut up for her to eat. Bathroom was clean. Will definitely eat there again.
Came here for lunch just because I wanted a picture of my husband (named Nick) in front of a restaurant with his name during our honeymoon. Absolutely loved the fish and chips, though I ended up eating them as left overs - their loaded baked potato was filling enough to be a meal all on its own and so very delicious! My hubby loved his meal, too, which was recommended to us by our friendly waitress.
Great food and very nice people. They went out of their way to make our experience pleasant. My husband left his coat and we went back the next night to see if it was still there. Three people took the time to locate it! Great place!
My service dog wasn't turned away like the Mexican restaurant did. But I'm glad I went there anyway! Shirley and Robby were so nice and the customers were friendly locals! Food was great! I will go back there.
Great food, great decor, lots of TVs, reasonable prices, very friendly staff, wish we had one in our town. Try the Monte Cristo.
Very good bar good. Salads are crisp. Service can be slow when they are busy, but they are fixing your food fresh. Great burgers and fries.
Ok atmosphere. Decent food. The waitress was friendly. Nothing was truely special about this place but it was a decent place to have lunch.
This place is now Highlander Grill. The bartenders overserve the local rednecks to the point that they become belligerent (at 6pm on a Saturday night) with management doing nothing about it. It’s advertised as a restaurant, but I deeply regret taking my children to this place and highly advise any families visiting Banner Elk to avoid this place like the plague unless having to explain to your children why the cops are at the restaurant is something you’re comfortable doing.
Service was the worst for this pub rebadged Highland Tavern. Could see the waitress in the back eating food while our drinks sat empty. Didn't check up after food was brought out by the other wait staff.Mahi was dry and rubbery. Steak was overcooked. The farm burger, however was very good.We were forced to leave %20 because we were with another family of four. She did not earn that at all.The band Thirty Oght 6 sounded great. They made up for a disappointing dinner experience.
An honest rating in my humble opinion. Most of the food is delish. Never had a bad experience in Nicks. Always good choices of drafts and it’s the BEST place to find a great DARK beer!!!!
New owner, now Highlanders. Best sports bar from Morganton to Banner elk. Went through extensive renovations. Lots of HD TVs, marble bar and a overhaul of the interior. Great bar food some with a unique twist. Blue cheese balsamic tavern chips are great.
Nick's has been remodel and up graded as for the inside looks much better the food is still #1 same friendly service New name HighlanderHighly recommend
This restaurant is not called Nicks on the outside sign. We had an awful experience last night. When we got there, it wasn’t crowded, yet we had to wait for our food at least an hour. It did get crowded after we arrived. Our waitress was awful. She didn’t come around to fill our water glasses, and she didn’t give us any reason as to what was taking so long. Then the food was horrible. Don’t order the chips with blue cheese crumbles. Soggy chips with no blue cheese crumbles, just some store bought awful BC dressing. Salad was awful. Everyone was sitting around looking unhappy, including us. We heard that this place was good, but it must have changed owners.
Good pub food an karaoke. Stays open later than most local establishments and caters to a group of regular locals. Nothing fancy but will suffice fo3 your late night bar foods and drinks. Usually a good selections of rotating beers on tap.
I've only had salads here as they are either out of what I want or the kitchen is closing down. Don't go after 9 p.m. if you want to eat anything other than fried foods. They are open until 10, but we arrived at 9:30 and the stove had already been turned off, so we could only order cold sandwiches, fried foods, or salads. The food we have eaten there has been good.
The staff is beyond amazing. They go the extra mile to make you feel at home. The food is beautifully presented and scrumptious! My favourite home away from home.
Great place! Very friendly staff! Excellent food and cool atmosphere.
We’ve been sitting here for over 2 hours and we still haven’t all gotten our food. Not even the kids meals. Some orders were wrong too. Tables are walking out around us. No one has even apologized, including the owner sitting next to us drinking a cocktail. I’m astonished more than anything that no manager/owner has tried to make it right.
The food was really good. It was our first visit and I followed the servers recommendation and got the turkey bacon swiss on grilled rye. It was a little dry so I dipped it in my french onion soup and it was perfect! Everyone in our group enjoyed their sandwiches too. Lots of side choices- we went with the recommended fries and they were seriously excellent. Our server was attentive and friendly. Only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because it took so long for 3 sandwiches to come out.
Good food, great service, fair prices
My favorite place to meet up with friends after work or for lunch! Great staff great cooks great bartenders! The black and blue salad is my pick from the menu unless Brian made some dill pickle soup, cheeseburger soup, or meatloaf. The wings are great too!
Friendly service! Good food, the chicken wings is worth the trip back . Clean. Prices are reasonable. Will be back .
Great place to hang out and meet locals from the mountains. One of the only places open all winter. Good food good atmosphere good ambience
Terrible food and service. Waitresses have dirty appearances and don't even put their greasy hair up. Nasty.Update: The owner forgot to sign into his alternate account before posting phony positive reviews. Lol! Seriously, just keep going toward the little downtown area and there are much better restaurants!
Man, this place was gooooood. Got in for an early dinner, cozy booth, random photo on the wall brought back some excellent childhood memories. Service was awesome, food was EXCELLENT. Do yourself a favor and get something with blackened salmon. Oh. My. God.
Had a great prime rib special (Sat. Nights). Music was wo derful. Good times had by all.
Poor service, left after waiting 30 minute for some one to take order. Carpet worn and dirty. Depressing old place. Needs maintenance. Staff dress like slobs.
I met the owners. Real nice people. I even bought a T-shirt!
Sat on patio with my dogs. My daughter was cut by a piece of broken glass on the ground near dogs ( while we were there they never cleaned it up) once we got her in order we waiting over 20 minutes for chili cheese fries. We decided to leave after waiting that long. Total we were there for 45 minutes between the glass and leaving. Gentleman was nice that helped and bar tender was nice. Seemed under staffed.
We had no way of knowing we could only choose from a short list of fried items after 9 pm. That meant 9/10s of the menu was off limits. This may be normal in bars but I didn't like it. We ended up with shrimp and chicken strips. Neither was anything special.
They changed the name apparently to Highlanders.
Great food, awesome big screen TVs for game viewing! And the owners are beyond friendly!! Love this Highlanders bar and grill!!
Quaint place with good food. Few healthy options, lots of delicious less than healthy options.
As of December 1st 2018 Nicks was officially renamed Highlanders. Nicks was closed the beginning of November. During the month it was closed a total makeover was preformed. The restaurant has a new look and a new menu. Some of the old favorites are still on the menu as well as many new delights. The weekend specials are out of this world! The food is good, the prices reasonable and the servers friendly. The new owners go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. There are over 25 TVs and a new hand held video gaming system. They have Karaoke every Friday Night and Live Music on Saturdays. There will soon be other events during the week. This is one place you should not miss! (Kevin)
Wish we had found this place before our last night in town. The bartender (I didn't catch his name) and our server Christy were very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere was easy going and laid back. We felt right at home and the prices were perfect. The food was delicious, especially the tomato parm soup. Nick's Pub and The Pedalin' Pig are our go to places now.
Great food. Nice atmosphere. Good draft beer and awesome food
